BRIEF HISTORY
The second son of the 17th Earl of Derby by his wife, Lady Alice Montagu, he served in World War I when he was awarded the Military Cross. After 1945, he did much to rebuild the Conservative Party, and but for his unexpected death, was tipped to become Chancellor of the Exchequer in the goverment elected in 1951.
